The Florilegium of Prince R. Bonaparte A Passion for Plants
An ambitious five-year botanical project
An ambitious botanical project
An ambitious project led by the members of AsPIB… A botanical and artistic adventure to follow with us!
The project “Florilegium of the Saint-Cloud Garden, in the footsteps of the lost garden of Prince Roland Bonaparte” is evolving and taking on a new identity as “Florilegium of Prince R. Bonaparte — A Passion for Plants.”
This florilegium pays tribute to Prince Roland Bonaparte’s deep fascination with the plant world, through a series of botanical illustrations depicting the species he cultivated or collected.
Originally launched in 2023 in collaboration with the Herbarium of Lyon, the project will continue in 2025 under the exclusive direction of AsPIB.
Its aim is to highlight the plant species connected to Prince Roland Bonaparte (1858–1924), nephew of Napoleon I, whose remarkable herbarium is now preserved at Lyon 1 University (Villeurbanne, France).
Designed as a long-term collective endeavor, the project will unfold over several years — with the final submissions expected in 2027.
